A.J. Stevens & Co (AJS) was founded by the Stevens family in 1909. Production of AJS-branded motorcycles started in August 1910 with the model A. Over the years, the company produced many fine motorcycles. In 1931, the company was in financial trouble despite holding 117 world records, and was sold. Use of the trademark name has continued and the company now produces a range of economical motorcycles.
