"Unveiled at the March 1989 Geneva Motor Show, the new Mercedes-Benz R129 Series SL range was beautifully engineered. Based around a two-door monocoque bodyshell, its sophisticated, all-round independent suspension (double-wishbone front/five-link rear) was augmented by a host of active and passive safety features including electronic stability control, ventilated ABS disc brakes, adaptive-damping shock absorbers, front airbags and an integral rollover bar that deployed in less than a third of a second if the car ever sensed an impending flip. Suitably cosseting, the convertible's impeccably built cabin consisted of a fully automated power hood and featured such advancements as memory seats, electric windows and mirrors and an adjustable steering column. Yet lurking beneath all the luxury and refinement was a performance orientated sports car.
This privately owned example of the desirable modern R129 classic is presented in silver with full grey leather trim. Owned previously by the proprietor of a detailing business, P520 OJW has been treated to a full ceramic coating giving it a splendid appearance. Sitting on four new Avon ZV7 tyres with new rear brake pads and discs, this car has been comprehensively serviced. The most recent service was in November 2020 at 76,760 miles, this added to the seventeen stamps already entered in the book pack. Offered with an MoT test certificate valid until September 2022 and, at the time of consignment, all electric items worked as they should, this vehicle has the desirable hardtop with garage stand and protective glove. This is a very good and well-kept example of a modern classic that is equally happy on the motorway for a long journey as it is enjoying B roads with the top down, in our view very good value.
