The Buick Century Sedan stems from a time when American cars were still huge. This 4-door sedan was supplied in the States when new in 1938. In 1994 the car was sold to Swiss who completely restored the car in Switzerland. This was a huge undertaking as most of the parts had to be sourced in America using an intermediary.

The bodywork is still shipshape. The original panelwork aligns nicely. Its fabulous grey finish was chosen during the restoration. Both the paintwork and brightwork are in very good shape, including the fantastic looking hubcaps.

The inside has been tastefully refurbished. The excellent quality light brown upholstery looks a treat. The dashboard, instruments and controls are all original and without exception in perfect condition.

The Buick Century was known at the time as the “Bankers Hotrod”. The car has a 5.2 litre Fireball straight-eight delivering 140Ps. Thanks to this engine this Buick was the fastest car on the market. The large 8-cylinder enabled the Buick to maintain its 100 MPH (160Km/hr) top speed for long periods of time. The transmission is a manual 3-speed affair. The car’s mechanics were fully overhauled during the restoration with as much dedication as was expended on the rest of restoration. The correspondence reveals how the previous owner spent a lot of time sourcing the right engine bay bolts, which is typical for the way this project was approached. The engine and gearbox work wonderfully smooth. The car has good working drum brakes on all fours.

There is an extensive file containing every invoice and piece of correspondence as well as books detailing parts numbers. This, in other words, is an excellent chance to lay your hands on this rare and well documented Buick Century that has been beautifully restored and rebuilt to its former glory.
