One of the truly great sports cars of the 1950s, the Austin-Healey was a case of the right car at the right time.

Before the 100 LeMans, before the Healey 100S, there was simply the Austin-Healey 100, but what an amazing car it proved to be. The result of a partnership signed in 1952 between the head of BMC, Leonard Lord, and successful automotive engineer Donald Healey, the '100' – so named for its top-speed capability – was unveiled at the 1952 Earl's Court Motor Show as a more sporting alternative to the rather stodgy Austin A90 Atlantic convertible.

The Austin-Healey 100-4 BN1 and BN2 Series cars are considered the “original” Austin-Healey.

Between the 2 series, the main difference was the adoption of the 4speed gearbox with overdrive in the BN2 models.

In the late summer of 1955, an updated model dubbed the Austin-Healey  and it was named the 100 BN2.

Visually, it was distinguished by beefier front wheel arches, and many left the Longbridge factory with two-tone paint.

A four-speed manual with overdrive and a revised rear axle ratio provided the BN2 with more spirited performance.

ABOUT THIS SPECIFIC EXAMPLE

This Austin Healey is an early 100-4 BN2 that was built in 1955.

The Austin Healey is finished in two-tone paintwork of Ivory White and Red, as well as a black interior and a black top.

The car remains in beautiful condition inside and out. It presents itself in a nice general state with some patina.

This Healey is a lovely example and is fitted with its original overdrive and overdrive which makes it a very useable car.

The Austin Healey is ready for entry to numerous desirable events and will surely be enjoyed for years to come.

During its last ownership by a Dutch gentlemen the car was enthusiastically enjoyed and maintained. Actually the entire car was restored during the ownership but part by part.

The car was used for trips and rallies and was always very well maintained and updated.

The Healey benefits from some upgrades including the desirable 100M package as well as an electronic ignition and an alternator dynamo.

At the front the Healey is fitted with disc brakes to make the car more safe on higher speeds.

CONDITION EXTERIOR

The Healey is in a very nice condition with a nice paint in red with cream panels.

The brightwork on the car has been taken off by us to give the Healey a more racy look but the bumpers will be delivered with the car.

The chrome on the car is in a nice condition.

Doorfittings are nice as well. One could decide to respray the wheels or probably change them for chrome wired wheels as the current wheels show some signs of use.

CONDITION INTERIOR

The interior of the Healey shows a beautiful patina. The leather on the seats is not new but show that the car has been carefully used.

In the middle part of the car a non-original box is tailor made with the same leather. The box is a very comfortable armrest which offers space inside.

The carpets are all in a nice condition.

The soft top as well as the tonneau cover are also in a nice condition.

A very rare and unique extra which is with the Healey are the original side screens.

We have taken off the aluminium surroundings of the cockpit and all of them show the original body number of the car (10346). Also in the boot the original body number is found.

DRIVING EXPERIENCE

The Austin-Healey 100 is a highly versatile sports car equally suitable for pleasurable touring or the occasional gentle motor sports event.

Indeed, this Healey can be easily transformed from a tourer into a racer by folding down the windscreen to increase the top speed. It is a relative simple car to drive and handles extremely well, but if the accelerator pedal is floored, turns into a veritable 'wolf in sheep's clothing'.

The easy-to-fit soft-top can be erected quickly whenever it starts to rain, while the relative large boot makes the car ideal for weekend tours.

Add to the mix sublime looks - particularly with the screen folded flat - and you have one of the most beautiful and desirable of classic British sports cars.

Every classic car is driving different and even all Healeys are driving different. This car is driving wise certainly one of a kind.

The response on the steering and pedals is extremely direct.

The power in the car is very impressive and the overall handling is superb.

We haven’t had a many Healeys which were driving so well as this car.
