Description

"Supplied new by Maranello Concessionaires, this Series 3 Type E, 246 GTS was delivered to its first owner Mr Tipper of South Kensington in November 1972. Copies of correspondence from Mr Tipper to Maranello Concessionaires and Ferrari show it was originally ordered in Rosso Chiaro Red; however, before finalising the order Mr Tipper changed his mind and the Ferrari was delivered in Blu Dino Metallic over a black 161 interior with a specification including metallic paint and electric windows. The plexiglass headlight covers and Ferrari badges were also fitted by Maranello Concessionaires in period. The Dino was treated to its first extensive restoration in 1987 by Gray Paul Ferrari which included an engine overhaul, a retrimmed interior and a renovated chassis and body, the cost of which amounted to £20,242. The odometer was also replaced during restoration, previously showing 42,540 miles. Acquired by DK Engineering in the early 1990s it was sold to its next custodian and treated to further restoration in 2000 including a colour change to Rosso Corsa which it proudly wears today. Purchased by the current vendor in 2004 the Dino has been used regularly completing many tours throughout Europe and has more recently, in 2019, been the subject of an engine and gearbox rebuild at a cost of circa £22,000. The paintwork and bodywork are in fine fettle, as is the interior which includes the very desirable Daytona seats. In good order throughout the coachwork presents very well, the paintwork retains a deep shine and shows very few blemishes. Both the chromework and engine bay are in splendid condition and the interior including the Mouse Hair dashboard and carpets are offered in very good order, as are the seats which are showing a light patina. The car is supplied with a comprehensive history file detailing the multiple restorations, sales receipts from new, many old MoT test certificates, sundry invoices, and the Red Book Ferrari Classiche certification confirming it still retains its original engine, gearbox, body and chassis. Records within the file suggest that the Ferrari has covered circa 66,500 miles from new, although this cannot be warranted. Maintained regardless of cost this wonderful and rather original example is reported to run and drive very well indeed and would enhance any serious collection."
