Description
"The Phantom III was significant for being both the final large pre-war car and the last car that received development work from the great Henry Royce himself. The new car, built on the success of the Phantom II, was introduced to compete with multi-cylinder cars from the likes of competitors Hispano Suiza and Cadillac. Although similar in looks to its predecessor, the new car was significantly different mechanically. At its heart was the new 7338cc, V12 alloy engine which featured cast iron liners, hydraulic tappets and twin coil ignition. The combination of new suspension and refined power provided an unrivalled level of road holding and ride comfort. Once again Rolls-Royce was ahead of its competitors.
We are delighted to offer this wonderful Rolls-Royce Phantom III. Originally delivered to Mr. Ralph Jump in November 1937, this Sports saloon, with the body number 7341 by Barker, still shows the original dealer plaque from the Barker showrooms on South Audley Street, Mayfair and from Rolls-Royce on Cheval Place, South Kensington. Built with the desirable division, sunroof and rear luggage rack, this handsome example is listed by the enthusiasts club as being painted in red and black when it was delivered. A colour combination that it has retained throughout its life and was repainted in during 1995.The only concessions to modern motoring, we are aware of, are the radios fitted to the front and rear passenger compartment and the fitment of an alternator. We are informed that, during the current owners tenure, this chauffeur-driven Rolls-Royce has always been maintained by the world famous Rolls-Royce specialists Frank Dale & Stepsons of London. Bills and receipts to the value of nearly £30,000 are included in the file. This impressive Rolls-Royce was viewed at Frank Dales whom the vendor has instructed to service the car prior to auction and that work in question is currently being undertaken. This Phantom III was found to have a familiar, solid sound when closing the doors, a tribute to the quality of the vehicle. Offered to auction with a V5C registration document, this Phantom III is offered with a very reasonable and tempting estimate."
