First presented in March 1934 as a sedan in front of the main Citroën dealers, the 7 quickly expanded its range with two other versions, called faux-cabriolet and roadster. The work of the genius Italian sculptor Flaminio Bertoni, the Traction Avant will be a worldwide success, but unfortunately its progenitor André Citroën will not be born. Revolutionary when it was launched, the Traction will become a universal success, proving the validity of André and his engineers' choices: front wheel drive, monocoque bodywork, four independent wheels, all under a low and slender body line. Its qualities have only been confirmed over the years and its evolution over more than 20 years of production. It immediately appeals to the public, thanks to the excellent habitability provided by its lack of chassis, for a price that remains reasonable. The 7A, the first version of the Traction, was replaced in June by the 7B, which adopted a 1,529 cc engine developing 35 hp. The convertible is equipped at the rear with a spider that accommodates two additional people, it is an extremely attractive car because it combines all the driving qualities of the Traction with a very pure line and a superior ease of use compared to the sedan, thanks to its open-air cabin. The appeal of the Traction convertible has been reflected in the creation of replicas, which makes authentic versions rare and sought-after. Like the one we're interested in today. According to the census of Olivier de Serres, today we know about 450 Traction Avant convertibles for all surviving models.
The convertible presented here is a 7C model manufactured in September 1934 and marketed later, in 1935. Apparently and according to some records, this 7C convertible was used in Marseille in the Bouches du Rhône region. According to the census mentioned above, his trace can be found in 1960 when he belonged to a Marseilles opera singer. Then it was stored for many years, still in the south near a village in the hinterland: Nans les Pins. In the 1990s, a Corsican amateur, Mr P, bought it and undertook its restoration. Thus, from 1998 and for more than 10 years, the car will be meticulously redone piece by piece. A document allows us to list the work, and in particular the complete sandblasting of the box by a sheet metal worker. The sills, floors, all the structural parts that were weakened and interchangeable were changed without any synto iron and fully aligned with the help of a marble. It is only between 2007 and 2009 that the mechanical part will be redone. Then came the upholstery, the hood and finally the chrome. It is a real reconstruction according to the rules of the art. Mr. P, his work accomplished, takes advantage of his car and then decides to sell it. It is therefore in 2011 that the current owner acquires the property and will continue his maintenance to enjoy it during rides between old cars. The car has a very healthy behaviour and the vigorous and tortuous engine gives all its power. Driving your hair in the wind in one of the most beautiful French convertibles of the pre-war period brings immense joy and it is up to you to become its new owner!
