The Visa 1000 Pistes corresponds to Citroën's trial and error in rallying in the early 1980s. The initial idea came from Guy Verrier, a former rally driver who became director of Citroën Compétitions. This version appeared with the birth of Group B. The 1.4-litre 112 hp engine remains at the front, but the car adopts all-wheel drive, in addition to modified suspensions to make it more dynamic and lively. For the purpose of homologation, 200 copies are produced, to which 20 "Evolution" copies will be added. The Visa 1000 Pistes will be the first French 4-wheel drive vehicle marketed for road and competition, before its cousin the Peugeot 205 T16, which will be remembered much more significantly in history. Under the hood, the 1000 Pistes is based on the mechanics of the Visa Chrono, the XYR 1360 cm3 engine that already equipped the Peugeot 104 ZS 2 and ZS 80 hp. Powered by 2 Weber type 40 DCOE dual-body carburetors, the engine develops 112 hp at 6800 rpm and a maximum torque of 13.4 mkg at 4500 rpm. The weight is contained (only 850 kg) despite the all-wheel drive. The 5-speed gearbox is complemented by a 20% self-locking on the rear axle. The front and rear axles are made of cast aluminium with a 1:1 ratio. The Visa 1000 Pistes were difficult to sell with a price high enough for the time and eclipsed by the contemporary Peugeot rally cars.
The Visa presented in these pages has a very interesting history since it was offered by the brand to one of its dealers in the city of Thônes (74), as a demonstration vehicle, to reward him for his victory in the 1000 track trophy. It was built, like every 1000 runways, during 1984, but it was not registered for the first time until December 1985. According to its serial number and Citroën records, it is the 150th of the 200 built. Preserved in its showroom like a relic, it covered only 935 km when it was sold in 2016 to a nearby antique car dealer. It is then that a major overhaul of the mechanics is undertaken with the draining of all fluids, the overhaul of the engine, the timing chain tensioners and the braking. The Visa is then offered for sale the following year and acquired by its current owner. In 2018 many works are still being carried out such as replacing the radiator, changing the transfer joints requiring the removal of the engine, raising the amount of the invoice to over 2000 €. The shock absorbers have also been re-tarked. Today we are presenting a more than perfect car, and during the test on the roads of the Provençal hinterland it made a strong impression. Despite its very low museum car mileage, it is perfectly tuned and ready to face the country roads. This 1000 Tracks is proposed here with a complete history file, as well as a technical inspection obviously free of any defects.
