Description

"The original Porsche 911 with its famous, distinctive and durable design was introduced in the autumn of 1963 and built until 1989. Mechanically, it was notable for being rear-engined and air-cooled. From its inception, the 911 was modified both by private racing teams and the Porsche factory itself for racing, rallying and other automotive competitions. The original 911 series is often cited as the most successful competition car ever, especially when its variations are included; namely the powerful 911 derived 935 which won Le Mans as well as other major sports cars races. The pre-impact bumper 911S 2.4 was made from 1972 to 1973. In 1972 the cars left the production line with the oil filler cap located behind the righthand door. Porsche then, in 1972, moved the oil tank nearer to the middle of the car for optimum weight distribution only to be forced to move it back in 1973 due to American customers, in particular, using it incorrectly as a fuel filler. No such treatment befell this Italian supplied car. The 1972 model is therefore regarded as the perfect handling 911 and the most desirable. The 2.4 S produced 190bhp at 6500rpm with a compression ratio of 8.5:1 that gave it a projected top speed of 147mph, nearly equalling the performance of the infamous production homologation special, the legendary 1973 RS which was based on it. Only the displacement of 2.4 litres verses 2.7 and a different cam in the fuel injection pump separates the two models mechanically.
This excellent, matching numbers, lefthand drive, 1972 Porsche 911S coupé with a side oil tank 'Oel Klapper', was supplied new to Italy where it remained until being purchased by the current vendor from a deceased estate in 2015. In 2018 the car was sent to Dal Jones Automotive Ltd, a Porsche specialist based in Essex, where the engine received a full rebuild. Finished in Albert Blue with tan leather interior, this lovely Porsche 911S coupé is supplied with a V5C registration document, a certificate of authenticity and copies of the Italian registration documents. The 911S coupé is not only a proper driver's car but with the values of 911's, particularly the S, on the rise, this striking example can also be regarded as an extremely sound investment."
