Presenting a rare 1985 Mercedes 300GD, factory built right-hand drive 5-seater convertible in an excellent overall and restored condition. It's believed that up until 1988, the G-Wagon 300GD was 1 of only 5600 sold.

Hand built quality and German engineering make for a popular vehicle throughout the world. They were never sold new in Australia and with very few right-hand drives built, they are a rare sight on Australian roads making them a highly desirable vehicle for the Mercedes collector.

Stored then imported out of the UK to Australia with previous ownership of a farmer, the vehicle has received a tasteful restoration upwards of $100,000 and features a bare metal re-sprayed in its Mercedes-Benz factory colour of yellow.

Its high powered I5 3.0L, 5-cylinder engine produced 65KW paired to 172NM of torque and was mated to a durable 4-speed manual transmission. Released as a mid-sized, four-wheel drive luxury SUV, it offers both a practical and a luxurious drive.

Optioned with the factory fitted 'Recaro tartan' trimmed interior was a rarity. This vehicle is also fitted with factory alloy mag wheels and side steps. The lights are assembled with brush guards, aftermarket LED driving lights and this example comes with a heavy-duty tow bar and chrome spare wheel cover to finish off the exterior.

Equipped with the reputable 'three fully locking differentials', it was named one of the best 4x4's of its era. Beyond its availability to the public, it was offered as a military vehicle in Greece, Austria, Switzerland and other European countries.

Accompanying this vehicle, are photos of its restoration and documentation of the vehicle's movements over the years. This very rare vehicle has come up for sale in Australia and is one for the true collector as it is suitable for club registration. This is a fun, practical classic that will make for a sound investment.

The Mercedes G-Class was first released in 1979 and it was the last thing the market expected from Mercedes, a brand known for their luxury and performance sedans. The off-road capabilities of the G-Class have made for an enduring legend that is still available new today. The G-Class was developed as a military vehicle, slowly over time seeing refinements such as central locking and a tachometer become standard on the vehicle from 1985. The use of the OM617 engine in the 300GD series had quickly made a name for itself as one of the most reliable engines every produced.
