THIS CAR
In December 1970, the 250 GT was sold by Swiss Ferrari importer SAVAF (Société Anonyme pour la Vente des Automobiles Ferrari) to Luigi Chinetti Motors in Greenwich, Connecticut. In 1971, 5117 GT was purchased by J.H. Fox of New Jersey. By late 1973, the Ferrari passed to George Muenchinger of Watch Hill, Rhode Island, and he retained possession for nearly 25 years while servicing the car as needed at the respected FAF Motorcars in Tucker, Georgia. During this period, the Lusso was cosmetically freshened with a repaint in burgundy. After Mr. Muenchinger’s passing in 1998, the Ferrari was sold via dealer Terry Price to Baseball Hall-of-Famer Reggie Jackson. The two-time World Series MVP enjoyed the Berlinetta for nearly a decade, during which time it was well maintained within his impressive collection. In 2000, Mr. Jackson commissioned a significant refurbishment by Grand Prix Motors in San Jose, California, including mechanical service as needed. The work also featured a refinish in Pino Verde Metallizzato paint over a Tobacco Brown leather interior. In August 2008, 5117 GT was sold to the consignor, a respected collector of postwar sports cars based in the Midwest. Seeking to exhibit the Lusso at a high level in various concours, in late 2008, the consignor retained the respected Ferrari expert Greg Jones for further mechanical and cosmetic restoration. The work included extensive engine reconditioning, renewal of suspension components, exhaust refitting, and refinishing using proper materials.

The consignor then presented the Lusso at select events during his 10 years of ownership, beginning with the Cavallino Classic in Palm Beach, Florida, in January 2009, where it earned a Platinum Award. Seven months later, the car was shown at the Meadow Brook Concours d’Elegance in Rochester Hills, Michigan.

In 2011, the 250 GT was certified by Ferrari Classiche, retaining the factoryequipped V-12 engine and gearbox. The Ferrari Classiche Red Book accompanies the sale of the Lusso and is available for review. Following the certification, the Berlinetta was presented at the FCA Ferraris on Oak Street Concours d’Elegance in Chicago in June 2014.

Documented with restoration notes and invoices, a history report by marque expert Marcel Massini, and certified by Ferrari Classiche, this beautifully presented Lusso offers the opportunity for presentation at FCA events and Ferrari gatherings, and may be enjoyed for the model’s rewarding touring characteristics. Such a finely presented 250 GT would bolster any collection, ideal for vintage Ferrari enthusiasts or connoisseurs of postwar grand touring models.
