"The Sunbeam Alpine is a sporty two-seat open car launched in 1953, it was the first vehicle from Sunbeam-Talbot Limited to bear the Sunbeam name since the 1935 takeover of Sunbeam and Talbot by the Rootes Group. Ken Howes and Jeff Crompton were tasked with doing a complete redesign of the Alpine in 1956 to produce a dedicated sports car aimed principally at the US market. Ken Howes contributed some 80% of the overall design work and, throughout its production cycle, the Alpine was manufactured in four subsequent revisions through to 1968. Production stopped shortly after the Chrysler takeover of the Rootes Group. The Series II of 1960 featured an enlarged 1,592cc engine producing 80 bhp and revised rear suspension. A Series II with hardtop and overdrive was tested by The Motor magazine in 1960, they recorded a top speed of 98.6 mph, acceleration from 0–60 mph in 13.6 seconds and a fuel consumption of 31.0 miles per imperial gallon. First registered on 9th February 1961, this restored Sunbeam is offered with splendid red coachwork. By the owners own admission this car has been restored at a cost above and beyond the value of the car, thus presents well. The history file accompany the car contains invoices pertaining to the restoration, these are coupled with some old MoT test certificates and old invoices. Offered with the factory hardtop and presented in good condition, we believe this car would represent fabulous value and would be perfect for enjoying weekend drives through the British countryside.
