Few cars epitomise the glitz and glamour of the 1960s jet set than the Facel Vega. Beloved by Hollywood legends, supermodels, and high-ranking politicians and diplomats alike, Facel Vegas had suitably grand price tags — this 1957 FV4 ‘Typhoon’ cost 10,000 francs when new, four times as expensive as a Citroën DS. One of 36 built, and just 15 believed to remain today, it is a model in luxury.
The sincerest form of flattery
We appreciate that replicas are a contentious issue in the classic car world, but when legendary cars like the Ferrari 250 GTO soar to such extraordinary values, it’s inevitable that imitations will pop up. Fortunately, this example, which is based on the underpinnings of a 250 GTE, is one of the best we’ve come across. One of seven cars built by renowned Ferrari guru Terry Hoyle in the early 1990s, this GTO recreation cost almost 600,000 US dollars to build. It’s not the real McCoy, but do you really care when it looks so good?
Anywhere goes
While the Porsche 356 Speedster was intended for the marque’s clients in the warm climes of California, it’s a car that, today, can be enjoyed anywhere. This 1958 Aquamarine Blue example currently for sale in Switzerland boasts all the right credentials: matching numbers, its original (and extremely attractive) colour combination, upgraded disc brakes, and factory certification. With spring fast approaching, this could be the perfect car for the 2018 events season.
