The ‘world’s best’ Citroën DS to be sold at Salon Privé…

At its flagship Salon Privé at Blenheim Palace sale on 2 September 2016, Silverstone Auctions will offer what it’s claiming could be the very best Citroën DS in the world…

With just one owner from new, this 1973 Citroën DS Super 5 has won over 200 individual trophies at concours and Citroën club events across Europe and starred in some 150 magazine features. The subject of a fastidious restoration, it’s now set to be offered for sale for the very first time, at Silverstone Auctions’ Salon Privé Sale. The auction house has attached a pre-sale estimate of £75,000-90,000 – a fair price to pay for such a significant model?

In recent years, we’ve seen Silverstone Auctions carve a niche for more modern classics – such as 1980s ‘Fast Fords’ – and contemporary limited-edition supercars, and the Salon Privé Sale is no different. Headlining the sale is essentially a brand new Lamborghini Aventador SV Roadster, showing just 60km on the clock. One of just 500 examples and lavishly specified, it’s estimated at £480,000-520,000 – that’s over £120,000 over list price. There’s also a time-warp Mercedes-Benz 190 E 2.5-16 Evolution II that’s covered fewer than 1,000 miles from new (£180,000-220,000) and a Porsche GT3 RS 4.0 estimated at a healthy £200,000-220,000. You can find the full catalogue for the sale listed in the Classic Driver Market.
