The 1960 Sunliner exhibits a new-for-1960 front end with new twin headlights and a scalloped square front clip, a sloped hood, chrome-edged fender lines and horizontal tailfins. This is an uncommon convertible with styling that is now considered classic.

A very little known fact about the 1960 Fords is that the production cars, at 81.5-inches, were wider than normal limits, and in some cases, required at temporary “pass” to be allowed on some roads. In any case, the new design was based upon a concept car and the restrained styling included unique fins that are rotated 90-degrees from the usual look and are on the same plane as the trunklid.

The 1960 Sunliner was part of the Galaxie Special V-8 Series that also featured the hardtop sister car, the Starliner sport coupe. This represents a very elegant, one-year-only body style that is quite uncommon. The production figure of 44,762 units does not breakdown how many of this total were part of the Galaxie Special Six Series. Respected sources indicate that the number of these cars that have survived is considered to be a fraction of those produced.

This particular Ford Galaxie Sunliner is reported as a former New Mexico car that has been fully restored and features a rebuilt 352-cid V-8 engine. It has a nice appeal in its red paint that is properly complemented by a tri-toned red, black and white interior – the soft-top is black with a red boot for covering the well when it is retracted. The automatic transmission, starter and generator are also rebuilt, while the radiator, hoses, brake lines, fuel lines, wheel cylinders, brake shoes and fuel tank are all listed as being new. The convertible top is power-operated and is also new, as is the hydraulic cylinders, lines and motor for operation. The brightwork has been refurbished and the interior has been as well.

The Galaxie Sunliner appears to be well restored and the engine bay and undercarriage also reflect this attention. Additional features include distinctive and beautifully styled brightwork trim elements, fender skirts, whitewall tires, factory wheel covers, dual sideview mirrors, exhaust tips and the spare and jack are found in the carpet-lined trunk.

With comfort and power that resonates boldly, this Ford Sunliner will undoubtedly add loads of fun and conversation to any automotive function or cruise.
