Description

THE GENIE OF THE LAMP
French. Made in the Empire Style in the late 19th century.
Fine and very unusual. Painted on enamel and gilt-brass,
8-day going, hour and half-hour striking table clock.
In the form of a classical lamp, the body entirely
decorated with painted on enamel with panels depicting
winged classical maidens, royal blue and gilt decorated
borders, the spout of the lamp with applied mask and
issuing a gilt flame, the other side applied with an anthemion
mount and with a classical female figure rising
from the lamp holding a ewer, concave blue and gilt
enamel support on a navette-shaped base decorated with
six panels of classical nudes in landscapes intersected by
royal blue and gilt panels, turned feet.
Annular white enamel with radial Roman numerals,
outer minute divisions, the center decorated with four
lozenges on a royal blue and gilt ground to match the
case. Gilt hands.
Circular brass plates, spring barrels for both trains,
platform lever escapement mounted on the backplate,
monometallic balance, index regulator, outside countwheel
striking on a bell.
