The Ferrari 208 GTB Turbo is little known outside of its native Italy as it was specifically introduced for the home market, where taxes on cars with engines larger than 2000cc were prohibitively expensive. When launched it was identical in every respect to the 308 series with a smaller 1991cc all alloy V8 engine, allowing it to escape the yearly registration fees while maintaining respectable performance. Fitted with a turbo and fueled by a Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection system it produced a healthy 220 BHP @ 7000 rpm, propelling the car to a top speed of 242 kph. Coinciding with the launch of the new 328 GTB and GTS models, the 208 GTB was slightly uprated and received an intercooler, and now produced a healthy 254 HP - nearly identical to the normally aspirated 328 stable mates.
