The W187 was Mercedes-Benz's model designation for their six-cylinder luxury cars in the early-1950s; they were available as a saloon, coupe, and cabriolet, all with the 220 model name. Introduced at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1951, the 220 saloon was replaced by the updated W105/W180 line in 1953. The coupe and cabriolet however lasted until August 1955.
All 220s used a 2195 cc straight-6 engine producing 80bhp, with styling similar to the 170 S, except that the headlights were integrated into the front wings for a more modern look. In accordance with normal Mercedes practice, two different cabriolet models were built, both in limited numbers, with a total production run of 1,278 for the “A” series (two-door), and 997 for the "B" (four-door) versions respectively.
