A Ship without a Captain: Steve Jobs' yacht unveiled

Just one year after the death of the man who made Apple one of the biggest companies in the world, the shipbuilder Feadship has finally completed the yacht that Steve Jobs spent the last six years of his life designing.

Not unexpectedly, the vessel is based on a familiar minimalist design that most tech-watchers will instantly recognise. With a striking similarity to Apple's computers, phones and iPods, the 260-foot ship is built entirely in aluminium, making it much lighter than the typical luxury yacht. And to make sure that his final masterpiece would be in line with his vision, Jobs employed the chief designer of the Apple stores to help create the large, floor-to-ceiling windows that span the ship's side, starting at the midpoint of the craft and wrapping around the boat's bow.

So, when the streamlined vessel was first unveiled in the Dutch city of Aalsmeer last week, it had many Apple fans rubbing their eyes in disbelief. Just what were they looking at? A yacht, or a gigantic, floating iPhone?
