Classic Driver was invited to a first Mediterranean outing of Bavaria’s Sport 43 flagship model.

If a brand gets negative associations in the public’s mind, it can be very difficult to reverse it. Audi, for example, had challenges moving from its staid 1990s image to today’s cool status. Boat-builder Bavaria has had a similar journey, and has revitalised its image with products like the new ‘Sport’ series of 28- to 43-foot yachts.

The hull’s lines and huge, retractable rear bathing platform make the yacht look bigger than it actually is. It offers some beautiful detailing like the grey gills of the engine ventilator, and the cabin skylights and built-in navigation lights.

Space is well utilised on deck. There’s that platform for sun-bathing, and a neat u-shaped bench and table for socialising. It’s designed for 12 passengers and perfect for parties – you can even order a gas grill, refrigerator and sink for the deck.

But it offers sporty performance as well as comfort. Two Mercruiser petrol engines deliver 430HP, or two Volvo Penta diesels 435HP – good for a top speed of 34 knots.

Below decks, choose either two or three cabins, the former with bathroom and shower. The galley features microwave, ceramic hob, fridge and sink. And a ceiling height up to 2.1 metres in the salon gives a spacious feeling.
