Rankin: Spirit of Ecstasy – Rolls-Royce commissions 100 images

The Spirit of Ecstasy was created 100 years ago and in celebration of this centenary, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars has commissioned renowned photographer Rankin to capture 100 images inspired by the legendary Rolls-Royce emblem. The first two have already been revealed.

Rankin has turned to his wife and model Tuuli Shipster for the first of his 100 portraits. Featuring Tuuli in silhouette, draped in flowing fabric, there is an immediate resemblance to the flying lady. In the months ahead, a variety of themes will be developed by Rankin, featuring a selection of women of different ages and cultures, symbolising the femininity of the Spirit of Ecstasy.

“This is one of the biggest projects I have ever taken on,” commented Rankin. “The images will be a statement about the modern day Rolls-Royce; they will feel fresh, directional and original, while also being beautiful and inspirational.”
