Geneva 2011: Gumpert Tornante by Touring

The first, full-face image has been released of the new Tornante, due to be unveiled at the Geneva Show this week. Scheduled as an addition to the Gumpert model range from 2012, the Tornante is a design concept created by Touring Superleggera to match a new chassis with a mid-mounted V8 engine.

Touring was commissioned to design the concept as a 2-seater coupé, focusing on elegance, space and comfort, but with its feet firmly rooted in motorsport-derived engineering. Gumpert and Touring share an ethos of “removing everything that is not essential” – hence the shape is clean, efficient, and well-balanced.

Featuring composite body panels over a light chrome-molybdenum steel spaceframe with carbonfibre monocoque, the lightweight Tornante has gullwing doors and a 4.2-litre, biturbo V8, promising 700HP in its standard form; with a further, ‘alternative-powered’ Tornante planned for 2012.
