Ferrari Muletto M3: Enzo Prototype for Sale

It is rare for one of Ferrari’s ‘Muletto’ (or mule) test cars to leave the hallowed workshops of Maranello, and be made available for sale on the open market. But Classic Driver dealer Modena Motorsport is currently offering the Muletto M3 car used as a rolling test bed for the Ferrari Enzo’s V12 engine.

At first sight the mule, built in 2000, is a Ferrari 348, with a wheelbase stretched to accommodate the pre-production V12 Enzo engine. However, other models donated parts to the Muletto M3: while the doors and much of the interior come from the 348, the brakes and suspension are predominantly 355 Challenge and, in the cabin, the dashboard has been modified to allow an instrument panel from the 360 Modena to be fitted.

At the heart of the mule is the 680HP engine: a modified version of the F140 A-type V12 F1 engine, as used in Scuderia Ferrari’s Grand Prix cars in 1991. It is different from the F140 B engine that was finally used and there is, for example, a welded aluminium air box, replaced in production by a carbonfibre one. You can find further details of the car in the Classic Driver Cars For Sale Database.
