The Italian Vintage Cars Collection, together with a rare, LHD DB6 Mk II Vantage, a LHD Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud II Drophead Coupé and a ‘barn find’, ex-Brooklands 1926 Vauxhall 30-98 provide the highlights at Bonhams’ forthcoming Greenwich sale.
The catalogue lists 80 motor cars in addition to over 300 lots of automobilia. A significant proportion of the former is devoted to a collection of 30 entries from a private collection, most of which are of Italian origin and date from the 50s to the 70s.
The collection includes a 1967 Lamborghini Miura P400 for $250,000 - 350,000, a 1964 Maserati 3500 GT Coupé ($60,000 - 80,000) and one of the greats, a 1966 Lancia Flaminia Super Sport ‘Double Bubble’ by Zagato competitively estimated at $75,000 - 100,000.

There’s a host of Fiats, too, including such gems as a 1959 Fiat 600 Jolly Beach Car ($35,000 - 45,000), a 1958 Fiat Abarth 750 Zagato Series III 'Double Bubble' Coupé ($40,000 - 60,000) and a cute 1951 Fiat 500C Giardiniera (estate) for $28,000 - 36,000.
1939 Bentley 4¼-Litre 'Overdrive' 'High-Vision' Saloon by H.J. Mulliner - $80,000 - 100,000
Moving back in time, the restoration project 1926 Vauxhall 30-98 OE Velox Tourer has been verified as a car that, in Dr. Bobby Beaver’s hands, had competed at Brooklands. Without reserve, it carries an estimate of $60,000 - 80,000 (all proceeds to charity) and once restored to health would make a nice pre-War sporting car for racing, sprinting or touring.
1930 Duesenberg Model J Torpedo Phaeton - $800,000 - 1,000,000
No worries on the condition of the 1930 Duesenberg Model J Torpedo Phaeton, a superb Judkins-bodied limousine which could well be “the most filmed Duesenberg of all” as for many years it was ‘on the fleet’ at Pacific Auto Rentals and starred in a myriad of films from 1940 onwards. Estimate: $800,000 - 1,000,000.

As an alternative to the Duesenberg, for sheer style and opulence, things don’t get much more impressive than a Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud Drophead Coupé. The Shell Grey 1960 Cloud II convertible that will be sold on 6 June is estimated at $280,000 - 320,000 and looks wonderful. Bentley fans will like the 1957 S1 Continental at $200,000 - 250,000, too.
With the ink drying on the company’s Works Service sale results, it’s Astons to the fore again across the Atlantic as, in addition to the desirable DB6, there’s a RHD 1965 Aston Martin DB5 ($180,000 - 250,000) and two restoration projects. Those wishing to ‘do it their way’ can stamp their personalities on either the 1937 2-litre 15/98 Speed Model Four-Seat Tourer ($50,000 - 60,000) or the 1967 DB6 Saloon ($40,000 - 50,000), Pacific Blue when new and only arriving in the USA in the early 80s.

Of the other lots, Nash-Healeys represent interesting 1950s motoring at affordable prices (there are two, a 1954 Le Mans Coupé and a 1953 Roadster, identically estimated at $75,000 - 95,000), while that most popular US import in the 1950s, Jaguar, supplies two XKs, a 1955 XK140M cabriolet ($95,000 - 115,000) and a 1953 XK120SE Fixed Head Coupé for $50,000 - 60,000.
On the racing front, the 1964 Elva Mk VII looks a potent historic racing car for $115,000 - 130,000.
Finally, ever heard of an OTAS? No, neither had I. There is one in the sale, as part of the Italian Vintage Cars Collection, and $24,000 - 26,000 will buy you a 1971 OTAS Grand Prix Coupé, a pretty Fiat 850 Coupé-based GT created by aircraft manufacturer-turned-coachbuilder Carlo Francesco Lombardi. So now you know.
