H&H has moved its centre of operations southwards for its forthcoming Surrey sale. One of the highlights is the rare, right-hand drive 1968 Lamborghini 400 GT estimated at £100,000 - 120,000.
The Lamborghini, and the 1937 Bugatti Type 57 Sports Saloon (£100,000 – 120,000), head an interesting selection of classics from pre-War to almost modern. Enthusiasts for 1960s GTs reeling from the heady heights of recent Aston Martin and Ferrari sales will like the 400 GT, not to mention the LHD 1967 Maserati Mistral for £38,000 – 42,000, and the 1973 Maserati Bora at £46,000 – 50,000.
And for those on smaller budgets how about the LHD 1972 Alfa Romeo Montreal (£6,000 – 7,000) or the 1978 Maserati Merak estimated at under Fiat 500 money for £4,500 – 5,500. It’s not all Italiana, however, as there’s also a 1984 Lotus Esprit S3 for £7500 – 8500 and several Jaguar E-types, all competitively estimated.

Missed that DB5 or Daytona? How about the 1965 Jaguar E-type 4.2 Coupe for £20,000 – 22,000? It’s red, rather than the more in-vogue opalescent shades, and is a LHD-conversion, but it’s a lot of classy Jaguar for the money. The catalogue also includes a 1975 Jaguar E-type V12 Roadster Commemorative for £70,000 – 75,000. Red is obviously the colour for British GTs as in addition to several vermillion E-types there’s also a 1971 AC 428 (£36,000 – 40,000) sharing its paintwork with the Royal Mail.
1965 ROLLS-ROYCE SILVER CLOUD III DROPHEAD COUPE - £85,000 - 90,000
A few words on the 1937 Bugatti Type 57 Sports Saloon. It’s estimated at £100,000 – 120,000 and carries the magic ‘Type 57’ nomenclature as well as four-door styling ‘attributed to Carrosserie Graber’. Think of it as a 1930s BMW M5 or Mercedes-Benz AMG E55 and you get the picture. An attractive car with a beautifully patinated interior.

Let’s finish on a couple of luxurious convertibles with famous previous owners. The well-known 1950s/60s racing driver Roy Salvadori once owned the 1970 Mercedes-Benz 280 SE 3.5 Cabriolet (£40,000 – 45,000) while popular British rhythm and blues pianist Jools Holland ran this 1965 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud III Drophead Coupe in the 1990s. It carries an estimate of £85,000 - 90,000.We like these cars and, in black, hood-down, Nikon F2 in the glove compartment, have just two words to say: ‘Blow-Up’.
