The Mugello Road Race 23-24 June 2007

The Mugello Road Race dates back to 1914 when the 66km Tuscan mountain circuit was a tortuous dusty track. In the 1950s, with the demise of the Mille Miglia great marques did battle, including Ferrari, Alfa Romeo, Porsche, Abarth and others together with their legendary works drivers.

June 2007 saw the running of the 20th ‘revival’ of the Circuito Stradale del Mugello, which is now a Rally & Regularity event for historic and classic racing cars built between 1914 and 1975. With special stages on the old mountain circuit, which include the Futa and Raticosa passes, as well as on the modern Mugello Grand Prix Circuit, this superb event is also part of the Italian Rally Championship.

Organised by Carlo Steinhauslin and the Scuderia Clemente Biondetti, the 2007 event took place in this stunning location and in perfect weather.

The many class winners and notable drives included: Marco Bianchini’s Lancia Stratos, Emanuele Baldacchini’s Porsche 911 RSR, David Baldi’s sideways Jaguar E-Type, Michele Bigatti’s diminutive Alpine A110, Wilma Savi’s Lotus Elan, Roberto Bigoni and Stefano Bailoni’s Opel Kadett GTE, Stefano Piazza’s Ford Mustang, Claudio Iezzi’s beautiful Alfa Romeo GTA and the two Ferrari Testa Rossas of Paul Schouwenburg and Giuliano Bensi.

Finally a mention of the Alfa Romeo 33 Daytona of Pietro Silva, the Lea Francis of Georg Prugger, and the Maserati 300 of Giuseppe Baldi. Well done chaps.
