ARTCURIAL Auction in Paris 18 June 2007 - Preview

After successful sales in February and April, the Parisian auction house ARTCURIAL will be holding a sale in the French capital next Monday with an entry that includes the 1927 Bentley 6 ½ litre with Corsica ‘All Weather Tourer’ coachwork estimated at Euro 500.000 - 600.00

The sale will be held under the guidance of Herve Poulain, who will bring the hammer down on the magnificent British machine, one of a series of ‘Standard Six’ cars that were designed in 1924, but only commenced delivery in March 1926. This car carries extensive documentation and benefits from an extraordinary tenure of 60 years in one family’s ownership. Originally carrying coachwork by Hooper, the car was re-bodied ten years later by Corsica in the form of an ‘All Weather Tourer’

The 1927 Delage DM 17 CV is a model that falls between the DI 11CV and the larger GL 30CV. It’s a strong, powerful car that for the first time in the company’s history carried bodywork designed in-house. With a more powerful (78 HP instead of 62) engine compared with the regular Delage DMS, this model was presented at the 1926 Paris Salon. The car in the forthcoming sale has ‘Torpedo’ bodywork that comprises a double cockpit with a folding and retractable rear windscreen, signed Freestone & Webb. It also has a beige leather travelling trunk. Likely to be one of only 22 cars in existence (according to the Delage Register 2004) it’s estimated at Euro 100.000 - 160.000.

1973 Alpine A110 1600 Groupe V - Euro 115.000 - 135.000

The 1973 Alpine A110 Gp V is the second 1600 cc car produced by the factory. It was sold new to a Mr Delahoulière who, with a 1796 cc engine, entered hill climbs in the Gp IV class until 1976, and then sold the car. By then it was powered by a 1860 cc motor prepared by Marc Mignotet and Daniel Passelaigues (DP Auto) – all accordance with specifications from the factory. After a long time in storage, the current owner decided to restore it to the standards of the time, and has now covered only 1,800 km since this work, now equipped with a fresh, bench-tested 190 HP engine. Estimate: Euro 115.000 - 135.000.

The Ferrari 250 GT Cabriolet Pininfarina was titled ‘Series II’ to distinguish itself from other cars with this engine built since 1957. The car in the Paris sale is a 1960 model, and is finished in the agreeable combination of metallic grey paintwork, a black fabric hood, and red leather interior. Please contact ARTCURIAL for the estimate.

1965 Mustang Shelby 350 GT - Estimate on request

This Ford Mustang Shelby GT 350 was first delivered in July 1965 to Jack Loftus Ford of Hinsdale, Illinois, and used as a demonstrator until December of that year. It was then sold via Trudell Ford, of Warren, Michigan, to a private buyer. All these details are recorded in the Shelby American Club records.

It’s a ‘matching numbers’ car with a 289 c.i. V8 developing 306 HP at 6,000 rpm. Shelby American equipped its cars with a modified crankshaft, 11.5:1 compression ratio, a Holley four-barrel carburettor, and special exhausts. The car was equipped with a manual T10 Borg-Warner gear box. Braking is by Kelsey-Hayes discs at the front with drums at the rear. The rear axle was borrowed from the Ford Galaxie and has a limited slip differential, while the suspension was stiffened and had Koni shock absorbers and a front anti-roll bar fitted. This car also has its original gearbox and has been the subject of an extensive restoration.
