Christie's at the Concours d’Élegance Paleis het Loo 31st Aug 2003 - Review

Christie’s sale at the Concours d’Élegance Paleis het Loo on 31st Aug sold its featured lot, the 1936 Bugatti Type 57 Atalante Coupé with Rollback Top, for €558,250. They were also able to sell most of the Ado Blaton collection, including the ex-Princess Lilian of Belgium 1961 Cadillac Series 6700 Limousine for €39,950.

With the market slightly depressed in terms of prices achieved and lots bought, Christie’s Dutch Sale nevertheless successfully sold cars, motorbikes and automobilia to the value of €1,769,141. Of the five Bugattis entered three sold, the 1928 Bugatti Type 43 for €360,250, the 1934 Type 57 Galibier Sports Saloon for €108,100 and of course the aforementioned 1936 Atalante - €558,250.

Neither of the Pegasos sold, nor did the 1966 Ferrari 275 GTS Convertible, but fair money was achieved for the 1937 Bentley Pre-War 4 Litre Parallel Door Sedanca - €91,062.

Christie's at the Concours d’Élegance Paleis het Loo 31st Aug 2003 - Review Of the Blaton collection, only the 1927 Cadillac Dual Cowl Sport Phaeton was unsold. Interestingly the very similar Rolls-Royce and Bentley limousines both sold, but the Bentley achieved a significantly higher figure, €47,000 than the Rolls (€30,550), reflecting Bentley’s current vogue and a reversal of the catalogue estimates.
