At $1,375,000, a 1963 Jaguar, (genuine, original), Lightweight E-Type Competition was the highest seller at RM's recent auction at the Amelia Island concours weekend. Other big prices were for that perennial favourite, the Mercedes 300SL, this time an alloy coupe, as well as a 1960 Maserati 5000 GT - at $495,000.

If a couple of Duesenbergs did not sell, then RM must have been pleased with the $324,500 achieved by the 1933 Cadillac V16 All Weather Phaeton. Not to mention the 1934 Auburn Twelve Salon Phaeton ($176,000), the 1934 Pierce-Arrow Twelve Silver Coupe ($154,000) and the 1930 Stutz Model M Vertical Eight ($163,900). All good stuff from the 'Great Gatsby' era.

More modern, semi-racing, lots sold included the 1980 Porsche 935 K4 Race Car ($123,200), and the 1990 Ferrari F40 ($308,000). Luxury, super fast cars for the super rich of the 1960s were represented by an excellent result for the 1960 Maserati 5000 GT ($495,000) and the 1962 Ferrari 400 Super America Coupe ($341,000). Both utterely gorgeous.
