Maranello, 31st October - The Ferrari Challenge Pirelli Trophy drew to a close less than two weeks ago, when the international finals of the 2002 series were held at the Santa Monica di Misano Adriatic circuit, with top honours going to the Italian Luigi Moccia (Motor) in the Pirelli Trophy and Thomas Kemenater in the Shell Cup.

The Racing Owners Division of Ferrari has already established the 2003 calendar for the Italian series. The season will get underway over the weekend of 29-30 March at the Enzo e Dino Ferrari” circuit at Imola, ending on 18-19 October with the traditional “Tutte le Ferrari in pista” (“All the Ferraris on track”) event which will return to the Mugello circuit.

Washington Ferrari sweeps Grand American

Daytona Beach, Fl, 11th November - The Girard-Perregaux sponsored Scuderia Ferrari of Washington team concluded its first season in professional racing by winning the GrandAmerican GT Team Championship with their Ferrari 360 GT. Bill Auberlen and Cort Wagner, the team’s drivers, were co-champions in the GrandAmerican GT Drivers’ competition. The team also set a new GrandAm record with five consecutive GT wins. Wagner’s championship was clinched as soon as he completed the first lap. ‘It’s a dream come true,“ said Wagner. “In a Ferrari, winning a championship, it’s your boyhood dream. This whole team - every one of them - has been absolutely fabulous. And to have Girard-Perregaux, our sponsor, join us in the championship in their first year in racing just makes this perfect.”

As soon as Auberlen completed one lap he joined Wagner as co-champion, the team’s goal. Auberlen set the fastest GT race lap by over half a second, and was exuberant when he finished his stint. “What a championship. Unbelievable. Who would have thought Allie Ash (team owner) would have brought a brand new car, a new team, a new group of drivers and win the championship. The team, along with the drivers, have learned so much this year. By mid season we were so lethal we could hardly lose a race. These guys are just so great.”

575M Maranello and Maserati Coupe most beautiful in the World for Automobilia

Maranello, 14th November 2002- This week in Milan, the International Jury of “Automobilia” met to study the forty cars selected to compete in various categories. The Jury was presided over by Bruno Alfieri and was made up of people from the world of art and design, including Gillo Dorfles, Heinz Mack and Bruno Sacco and representatives from Italy, France, Great Britain, Germany, United States and Peru. They selected winners of the 2002 “Most Beautiful Car in the World” prize. The category for sports cars was won by the Ferrari 575M Maranello which scored 16 points, as well as recording the greatest number of votes for overall favourite. In second place came the Maserati Coupe on 10 points.

It is an important decision for the Ferrari group, confirming the two marques efforts in terms of technical innovation and style, achieved in close collaboration with the major exponents of Italian design and style around the world: Pininfarina in the case of the Ferrari 575M Maranello and Giugiaro for the Maserati Coupe.

The prizegiving ceremony will take place in Milan next March.
