Get through winter in style with these classic all-wheel-drive Porsches

Your new Porsche 911 Dakar might not arrive in time for Christmas, but there are other cool Porsches that will bring you safely across rough roads and snowy paths this winter. Here are our favourite classic all-wheel-drive Porsches currently for sale in the Classic Driver Market.

Of all the sportscar brands currently jumping on the Safari band wagon, Porsche certainly has the most authentic offroading heritage. After all, the all-new, limited-edition Porsche 911 Dakar was inspired by the Porsche 953 that won the Paris – Dakar Rally in 1984. Proven on the world’s toughest rally slopes, the all-wheel-drive system soon made it into serial sportscar production – first in 1986 in form of the highly exclusive Porsche 959, then in 1988 when the first Porsche 911 Carrera 4 was introduced for the Type 964. Since then, AWD sportscars have become a signature product for the Zuffenhausen portfolio, becoming a highly successful option for all Porsche 911 Carreras and a permanent fixture for the Turbo models. Today, sporty go-anywhere cars like the Macan and Cayenne make for most of Porsche’s profits, but with the 35th anniversary of the first all-wheel-drive Porsche 911 on the horizon, there is no winter car as cool, stylish and understated as a classic Carrera 4 or Turbo. Just put your skis on top, park it in front of your Alpine chalet – and enjoy its sight all winter.
