A true flagship of the Alfa Romeo brand, the 2600 was already available in 1962 as a coupé and convertible. A very luxurious model with four real seats and dressed by the Touring bodybuilder, it was an elegant and high-performance car whose total production was limited to only 2,255 units given its high selling price at the time. If the chassis is an evolution of the previous series with a 2.0 l engine (Tipo 102), the Tipo 106 benefits from a few alterations and improvements, but the most important one is under its front bonnet with the arrival of the new 2,584 cc double-shaft six-cylinder engine developing 145 hp. The 2600 Spider becomes a luxury car with taut lines, a beautiful habitability and first-rate performance, enabling it to compete with the most prestigious cars in its category. For a long time in the shadow of the Spider 1600 (Tipo 101), this model has been sought after for several years for its great road qualities and its rarity.
According to the certificate issued by the Museo Storico Alfa Romeo, the model we present here was produced on 7 April 1964 and delivered to Rome on 7 March 1966 to the Raganelli garage. Some time later, the car was sent to the Italian consulate in New York before a certain David Switzer residing in Hollywood took possession of it. Our car was registered in his name on the 2600 Register in March 1986 until April 2005. In 2006, the car is back in Europe and will be fully restored by OKP Engineering in Munich and Alfa Classic Center in Dortmund. A very precise description of each stage of the restoration with an important photo file. The car will then leave for England in 2007 for 3 years before returning to Saint Rémy de Provence in 2010. It is with this collector that the current owner took possession of it two years ago. With 26,450 km on the odometer since its restoration, the condition of this car is beyond reproach. The quality of the paintwork, the regularity of the alignments, the beauty of the interior are stunning, as is its behaviour. After having driven it for about ten kilometres around Brussels, we appreciated the torque of its engine, the precision of its gearbox but above all the quality of its running gear. Perfectly tuned, the car is a delight of precision and its braking was very efficient thanks to its 4 disc brakes. Mounted on magnificent Dunlop spoked wheels and equipped with Michelin tyres (5.50 R16), the car is sold with its maintenance and user manual, the two factory catalogues listing the parts, bodywork, mechanical and electrical components specific to the 2600, the sales brochure of the period and of course its restoration file. We fell in love with this car, which, we must admit, is presented at an extremely attractive estimate given its many qualities.
