Description

- Newly delivered in Johannesburg, South Africa in 1958
- Beautiful restored example
- Wonderful color scheme
- Rare early example

The Giulietta Spider was introduced at the Paris Motor show in 1955.
The spider was styled by Pinin Farina.
When the Giulietta Spider arrived it set new standards for sports cars.

The car offered a lot of space although it seems a relative small car. It is very comfortable and had rollup windows which was special at the time.

The trunk offered a lot of space and the looks interior wise and exterior wise were just fabulous.

But these were just the looks. When the car is started and seriously pushed it becomes clear that Alfa had a long track record in producing race cars and that the experience was used when the Giulietta was made.

ABOUT THIS SPECIFIC EXAMPLE

Some weeks ago we get in touch with a very friendly Belgium gentlemen. He wanted to buy an Aston Martin and offered to trade in his Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider.

We have seen many Giulietta Spiders and these cars are often in a condition which we don’t like to have in our collection. But after seeing some pictures and receiving a description an appointment was arranged and the Alfa came from Belgium on a trailer towards our premises near Amsterdam.

The deal was already made but both parties had to agree on the quality of their cars.

When we saw the Alfa on the trailer it was immediately clear that a beautiful car had arrived. A car with very nice gaps, a beautiful paint and wonderful chrome.

A very attractive car due to the beautiful color combination.

We just had to hope that the owner of the Alfa should like the Aston Martin on which he wanted to trade in this car.

The result might be clear. We traded in the Alfa on the Aston Martin and are happy to offer this beautiful example.

Originally the Alfa has been delivered in South Africa, in Johannesburg.

The former owner bought the Alfa in Belgium in 2017 and spend serious amounts in the car. It seems that the car was already in a nice condition when he purchased the car but it has been wonderful detailed afterwards and invoices are on file.

This Giulietta is one of the early series, also known as the 750D. The 750D had the shorter wheelbase, the nice small rear lights and the sloping windscreen without quarter-light.

CONDITION EXTERIOR

The Alfa is cosmetically in a beautiful condition. The body was prepared and painted to high standards. The doorgaps are impressively beautiful.

The chrome is also in a very nice condition even as the soft top which is in as new conditoin.

The wheels are in as new condition as well with fresh tires.

Alltogether exterior wise the Alfa is a beautiful appearance.

CONDITION INTERIOR

The interior is like the exterior of the car. The interior is in an excellent shape. The dark red upholstery fits the exterior color of the car very well.

The seats, carpets and door panels are in an excellent shape. Also doorrubbers etc. are in perfect order.

The dashboard and instruments are also in a wonderful condition and all meters are working properly.

The steering wheel presents similarly nicely and is free from cracks and has excellent chrome on the horn ring. The steering wheel badge is also in beautiful condition without any damages.

ENGINE COMPARTMENT / UNDERNEATH

The engine compartment is beautifully restored, including the engine itself, firewall, and inner fenders. The attention to detail is very nice. The trunk also presents beautifully with a comprehensively restored and fresh appearance. A correct rubber floor Alfa Romeo floor mat has been sourced and installed, as has the paint decal.

The underside of the car is also in beautiful. It is clear that this car is from bottom to top in a wonderful condition.

DRIVING EXPERIENCE

The car runs and drives well. The engine is well tuned and revs enthusiastically. The gearchange is crisp and the synchromesh excellent.
The car is currently fitted with a weber carburetor to increase the engine power.

The original Solex carburetor comes with the car.

The clutch is easy to modulate and works properly. The chassis and suspension are tight, allowing the driver to exploit the car’s famously balanced and enjoyable handling. The brakes are effective but there is some vibration from the drums.
