Description

With the arrival of the 3000 in 1959, following the 100/6 model, the Austin-Healey was moved decidedly upmarket. The 3000 sported a three-litre engine and featured front disc brakes; soon thereafter a curved windshield arrived, along with roll-up windows and articulating vent wings. The 3000 Mk III, the final iteration of the model, debuted in 1964 and featured a 10% increase in horsepower, a larger SU HD8 carburetor setup, and standard power-assisted brakes. Vertical grille bars associated the newly improved model with the higher-priced offerings of other British manufacturers.

The 3000 Mk III offered here was built in the final model year of production and is a fine example of the much-loved model. Since 1994, this BJ8 has been a permanent part of a well-regarded private collection in the northeast. Restored to show standards prior to the consignor’s purchase, the Healey has been exercised and looked after by a staff of accomplished mechanics and restorers under current ownership.

A version of British Racing Green, this Austin-Healey is accompanied by a tool roll, as well as a set of books and manuals. Also included is a fully equipped, period Brexton picnic basket that may inspire memorable adventures for the next owner. Few sports cars of the era offer the combination of excellent roadability, charm, and classic design of the inimitable “Big Healey,” and it has earned the affection of car enthusiasts everywhere.
