It was approximately 15 years ago that I wanted myself an Austin Healey.

One way or the other, I wanted to buy a Healey and because I was studying and not able to afford such a car I was in need of financial help.

Luckily my parents made me loving cars and understood that I needed their financial help to afford such a car.

I was able to buy a very nice Austin Healey.

But because of the help of my parents, they were also able to advice me to look for a specific type. My father told me that I should be stupid if I should buy a 4 cylinder Healey. He told me that a real Healey has a 6 cylinder but after my Healey studies I already knew that he was not completely correct.

And amongst the engine, I was so impressed by the beautiful shape of the Healey 100.

Anyway, my parents won the battle and I bought a very nice Austin Healey 100-6 BN2. It was a fantastic car in the same color combination as this Healey 100-4.

The sound was excellent but I was still thinking of the 100-4 and there was actually 1 big reason for that. I dreamed of a Healey from which I could let the window go down.

A Healey 100-4 has in my opinion everything. It can be a relative comfortable car which can be driven when it is raining with a comfortable soft top. It can be driven open with grandma when the front window is up and it can be really raced around the track with grandpa with the front window down.

In my opinion the Healey 100-4 really has 3 faces and all of them have a specific character.

If you have the Healey in the garage, it is a fantastic car to look at. Take a seat, put on some good music and put the window of the Healey down. If you look at the design of the car, then it is amazing that it was possible to build these cars in the fifties.

ABOUT THIS SPECIFIC EXAMPLE

This Austin Healey was newly delivered to the United States. It is 1 of the earlier examples being a BNI.

The car is therefore fitted with the desirable 3 speed gearbox with overdrive on the 2nd. and 3rd. gear.

Personally the BN1 is my favorite because the ratio in the gearbox is better as in the BN2. In the BN2, you just don’t need to use the 1st gear.

This specific car with chassis number BN1-L/220865 has been built at the 26th of October 1954. It was immediately send to the Austin Motor Company of America when she was completed.

The Healey was ordered new in Old English White and had a laminated windscreen, a heater and wire wheels. All these options are still on the car.

The Healey has been most of it’s life in the United States and came to Holland in 2009. The former owner was an enthusiast who drove the car regularly and maintained the Healey at a well known specialist in the Netherlands.

We have owned this Healey before when we bought the car in 2016 from a Healey specialist in Holland.

We sold it quickly to customers/friends from Germany. A couple who owned a nice collection with beautiful classic cars.

Almost all the cars of their collection were bought from us.

During the ownership between 2016 and 2020 the German owners spend approximately € 12.000,- on the car.

They carried out regular service but they also rebuilt the engine as well as the gearbox.

Invoices of the work done are available.

The Healey is now registered in Holland and the car is complete with a FIVA Identity card.

CONDITION EXTERIOR

The body of this Austin Healey is very nice. It is straight and very solid. The paintwork is very nice as well and during the restoration it was done to high standards all around.

Inside the doors, the Healey looks very nice as well even as inside the engine bay.

The chrome is excellent throughout.

The car is fitted with it’s original bonnet while many Healeys are fitted with the non original 100M louvred bonnet.

The window can be easily flattened and the condition of the window as well as the chrome surrounding of the window is very nice.

CONDITION INTERIOR

The interior is in excellent overall condition.

The seats and carpets are both in close to new condition.

The gauges are very nice and all in working order. There is a slight aging to the finish of the speedometer.

The original switches and controls are present and functional, including the steering wheel-mounted turn signal, choke switch, and bonnet release.

DRIVING EXPERIENCE

When the key of the Healey is turned, the engine starts easily and it become immediately clear that the engine is running very strong.

The oil pressure is perfect

The power in the car is amazing. The low weight and the strong engine are a fabulous combination.

The engine produces a fantastic sound which makes a drive even more joyful.

The transmission shifts very well with good syncros, both when warm and cold but this is also because of the rebuild.

The brakes are excellent as well and the clutch is brand new.
