Description

This classic car is for sale on Catawiki. To have more information or to place a bid click on the "BID NOW" button. .The 190 SL was built from 1955 to 1963. The car has a special origin story. Following a suggestion from the American Mercedes-Benz importer, the car was built as a cheaper version of the legendary 300 SL.

The car was not marketed as a sports car, rather as a comfortable two-seater. Between 1955 and 1963 more than 25,000 units were sold. In the meantime, the Mercedes 190 SL has become an valuable classic.

This early 1956 Mercedes-Benz 190 SL was delivered new in the United States. Which is where the car stayed until 1999. In that year, the car was imported into the Netherlands. All that time the car was owned by 1 owner in the Netherlands.

The car was refurbished by the current owner, which only took some modest work. The car hardly required any welding. The paintwork did require some more work as well as
a lot of the chrome parts. The engine was replaced in America by the modified version from the 190 SL, the 121.928 version.

The owner also found it necessary to replace the Solex carburettors by the dual Webers, these can be adjusted better. The original Solex carburettors will also be included.

The original gearbox shifts excellently and the engine runs well. Brakes, suspension and steering work properly and the car drives great. No strange noises or other discomfort.

The soft-top has also been renewed as part of the overall refurbishing.

In short: this is an intact, technically good and fine driving Mercedes 190SL.

Export documents will be supplied for export to countries other than the Netherlands. We can arrange transport upon consultation.

The car can be seen and tested in Valkenswaard, the Netherlands. It is recommended to do so prior to placing a bid. Please schedule an appointment for this via Catawiki.
