Description

Better known as the 911 Turbo, Porsche originally built the internally designated 930 to comply with homologation regulations intended for FIA’s requirements to race the new 911 Turbo Carrera RSR in 1974. At its inception, the 930 was the German automaker’s fastest production car. Throughout its run, the 930 underwent improvements, including, in 1978, an improved 3.3-liter intercooled engine, better brakes, and other refinements.

The 930 offered here was purchased new by legendary driver Al Holbert, a three-time Le Mans winner for Porsche and originally titled to his father Bob's Porsche dealership in Philadelphia. It was finished in special-order Chiffon Yellow over a full brown leather interior, fitted with a limited-slip differential, electric sunroof, a passenger-side exterior mirror, air-conditioning, and power windows. In previous ownership, the 930 received a rebuild of its engine, which is not original to the car but is a 1978 930 engine, and a repaint in its original color.

In current ownership, in 2015, the Porsche was sent to specialist Daniel Jacobs LLC of Oxford, Connecticut, where it received fresh fluids, new brake pads, and an engine service that included the resealing of the timing chain boxes, new cylinder head gaskets, a new alternator, and work to the ignition system. The 930, which showed just 22,940 miles at the time of cataloguing, is accompanied by manuals, records, and a copy of its Porsche Certificate of Authenticity. With its outstanding provenance, rare color, and mechanical attention, this 930 is a unique example that will appeal to the discerning Porsche enthusiast.
