The XK150 was a progressive development of the XK120 and XK140, retaining the same basic chassis, 3.4-litre engine and four-speed Moss transmission of its predecessors while benefiting from a new, wider body that provided increased interior space and improved visibility courtesy of a single-piece wrap-around windscreen, replacing the XK140’s divided screen.

Introduced in the spring of 1957, the XK150 was available at first only in fixed and drophead, ‘2+2’ coupé forms, the open two-seater version not appearing until the following year. Disc brakes apart, the chassis remained much as before, as did the 3.4-litre, six-cylinder engine that produced 190bhp as standard or 210bhp in ‘Special Edition’ form when fitted with the ‘B’-type cylinder head. The four-speed Moss gearbox continued while overdrive and automatic transmission were optional. “The Jaguar XK150 is undeniably one of the world’s fastest and  safest cars. It is quiet and exceptionally refined mechanically, docile and comfortable..we do not know of any more outstanding example of value for money”, concluded the authoritative Autocar magazine.

For those who demanded even greater performance an ‘S’ option became available concurrently with the launch of the sportiest ‘OTS’ (open two-seater) roadster bodystyle.

Distinguishable by its orange painted, straight port head, the ‘S’ boasted triple SU carburettors, free flow inlet manifold, 9:1 pistons, lead bronze bearings and a lightened flywheel, these features helping to liberate 250bhp.

The later 3.8 version claimed an extra 15bhp but experts agree that the 3.4 ‘S’ is the sweetest of all XK engines.

ABOUT THIS SPECIFIC EXAMPLE

This specific example is an ORIGINAL S version.

The Jaguar left the factory on 10th. of November 1958 and was despatched 2 weeks later to the East Coast Jaguar distributor Hoffman in New York, United States.

Only 846 left-hand drive XK150S 3.4 examples were built.

The car has undergone a very impressive restoration whereby the complete car has been taken apart and has been restored from chassis to top.

Pictures are available which show the start of the restoration / the chassis.

During the restoration, the Jaguar was repainted in the very attractive and period-correct colour of British Racing Green.

The car is finished with a beautifully complementing Suede Green interior.

In August 1997 Mr. Fred Secker, a former owner of the Jaguar, contacted Dan Mooney of Classic Jaguars (USA) Inc in Austin, Texas and expressed an interest in having an XK 150 restored.

He then sourced the car from a dealer in Kentucky and the car was duly purchased and trucked to Austin.

The car was complete and in good drivable condition with no signs of damage and very little rust. An excellent starting point for a ground up restoration.

They decided together that the Jaguar had to be restored to the highest possible standard and to original condition such that it could entered into concours competitions.

In November 1997 the car has been completely stripped and it was possible to separate the body from the chassis.

As expected, both body and chassis were very straight with just surface rust.

By mid-January the chassis had been stripped to bare metal, then it was epoxy painted in the correct black chassis colour.

During the restoration the car has been impressively restored. Pictures show the body which was stripped down to bare metal, with anything deemed needing repair or replacement rectified with correct components.

In 2001 the Jaguar was purchased by a gentleman from England and imported from Texas to Burnham that lies north of the River Thames in Buckinghamshire, about 23 miles west of Charing Cross, London.

During his ownership the car was very properly serviced. The owner send the car over to experts when required.

In 2006 the engine was re-built by VSE while HRG Classic Jaguar overhauled the suspension in 2007.

In 2011 the flywheel was machined and balanced and the starter motor repaired.

When the Jaguar arrived at our premises we have carefully inspected the car. No big issues were found and after a good check of the brakes and a fluid change were are happy to inform that the car is ready to be enjoyed.

CONDITION EXTERIOR

The Jaguar was dirty when it arrived at our showroom but after a very proper ice cleaning treatment it became immediately clear how nice this car actually is.

From underneath (the chassis, as well as the wheel area’s) one can see that the Jaguar has undergone a very proper restoration.

The body of the Jaguar is very nice.

The chrome is very beautiful as well except of the rear bumper.

The rear bumper showed a small dent and we have decided to take of the bumper for restoration and re-chroming. (therefore the pictures of the car without bumper)

The windows and glasses are all nice even as the soft top which is in a beautiful condition.

The chrome wired wheels are all very nice shining and don’t show any damages or rust.

Due to the fact that the Jaguar has undergone a restoration some years ago it is possible to find some small points of imperfection on the body but overall this is a beautiful example.

CONDITION INTERIOR

The interior is equally nice. The leather on the seats is excellent and shows a little patina. The Seude Green leather seats fit the exterior color extremely well.

Inside the cabin everything is clean, neat and tidy. The interior is in excellent condition all round, as is the dash, steering wheel, instruments and controls.

All switches and instruments are in a perfect condition and have been all checked on functionality.

Engine Compartment

The S stands for Straight port engine head. This special engine head was developed for the XK150S models and as the name implies had the ports straightened for better gas flow. It was fitted along with 3 SU carburetors, a 9:1 compression ratio and a lightened flywheel.

An original 3.4S engine can be recognized with a VS number.

This specific example has engine number: 1571-9 where the last 9 in the chassis number shows the compression ratio.

DRIVING EXPERIENCE

This XK150s roadster from the first year of production represents the most desirable variant of the XK150 line up. The so-called “S" version.

The car is fitted with a 5 speed gearbox which makes it the best possible specification to drive.

The 5 speed gearbox is a more modern gearbox which reduces impressively the amount of revs on high speed.

The combination of the very powerful engine with the 5 speed gearbox results in a superb driving and very usable car.

Actually this car can easily be used on a daily base but also for holidays whereby large amount of kilometers have to be driven.

Actually it is not strange why so many Jaguar XK’s have been sold. In comparison with other cars like a Mercedes or even an Aston Martin, these cars are driving impressively well and can really be used on a daily base.
