What a beauty! In the past Mercedes-Benz already knew the secret to the design of a lovely convertible. This W180 generation 220S Ponton Convertible is no exception. Our car is a very good looking 220S Ponton Convertible in a Two-Tone red finish with a brown hood. This original US supplied car was first registered on the 1st June 1958. Since 2003 it has been in possession of its last owner. Over the last 17 years the car has always been particularly well cared for and maintained. The beautifully arched original bodywork has correct shut lines and is rust-free. The Two-Tone red fished was re-sprayed for purely cosmetic reasons and is in good condition. The brown linen hood was replaced in the past and still fits tightly allover and is in good condition. The lovely brown leather interior trim is complimented by the brown velvet carpet. Generally speaking the trim is in fine used condition. Unfortunately the drivers seat has sustained a slight tear, that really should be repaired. A car should not only look good it should drive equally well too. The latter is certainly the case with this Mercedes-Benz 220S Ponton Convertible. The car has a 2.2 litre sized straight-six with twin Solex carburettors coupled to a 4-speed gearbox. The engine has already been subject to a full overhaul in the past by a Mercedes-Benz specialist, which is evident when driving the car. The engine delivers her maximum torque of 171.5 Nm, the Germans like to be precise or as they say “Punklich”, at 3,500 revolutions. The full 106 horse power is unleashed at 5,200 revolutions. The ample stroke volume combined with the nice gearbox ratios always allow for ease of getting along in todays traffic, the 220S feels quite modern for a 50’s car. In summary a very well maintained and beautifully presented Mercedes-Benz 220S Ponton Convertible. Gallery Aaldering is Europe’s leading Classic Cars specialist since 1975!
