Description

The 280 SE 3.5 Coupe – the culmination of years of product design evolution – emerged in 1969 with a new 3,499 cc V-8 engine and was able to easily top 127 mph. Only 3,270 coupes were built, and very few were finished in original colors as attractive as this example.

This 3.5 Coupe is fitted with all of the most desirable options – floor-shift transmission, air-conditioning, and power windows – and was first delivered to France in Anthracite Grey Metallic and black leather upholstery, the color scheme it wears today.

Reportedly, this 3.5 Coupe was stored for over 20 years before a previous owner, a Mercedes-Benz certified mechanic, completed a full restoration in December 2014. He chose to complete the bare-metal repaint in the original Glasurit paint and also re-chromed much of the brightwork. The car is accompanied by spare tire, jack, and lug wrench.

In 2014, this 280 SE won First Place at the Mercedes-Benz Club of America Concours d’Elegance at Grayson City Park in Georgia. With its desirable colors and options, this example represents one of the last hand-built Mercedes-Benz models, a truly elegant and opulent grand tourer.
