Description

In the early fifties, Chevrolet succeeded in producing an alternative to the successful European sports cars with its Corvette. In so doing, it may well have created the most legendary all-American sports car of all time.

The ‘C1’ was launched in 1952, with the first units rolling off the line one year later. To rush this first-generation car into production, Chevrolet decided to capitalise on existing mechanical components, including an inline six front engine – output 150 hp. Only the use of polyester for the body was innovative. The concept caught on and although the car’s success did not immediately exceed expectations, Chevrolet decided to stay the course. From 1956, the straight-6 engine was dropped and only V8 engines were available, bringing the output to +200hp. The body was also given an overhaul. The production and further development of the C1 continued until 1962.

The second generation, in 1963, marked the start of a new chapter for the Corvette. In addition to the convertible, the car was now also available as a coupé. It also got a new name, ‘Sting Ray’, and a completely new design. As was the case with the C1, the chassis was made from fiberglass to reduce the car’s weight and give the designers more creative freedom. The design was inspired by the Corvette Stingray concept car of 1959 and featured several unique details. On the technical level, the Corvette ‘C2’ also signified a great leap forward, with four-wheel disc brakes and independent rear suspension. The V8 engines’ power also increased significantly, varying between 250 and 435 hp. The second generation was produced until 1967, after which a new variant was launched.
Now, 65 years later, Chevy recently revealed its 8th generation Corvette, although the basic principle is still almost the same.

‘Collection by Vermant’ is pleased to offer you this exceptional 1967 Chevrolet Corvette ‘Stingray’ Convertible. This is a ‘C2’ series car, with matching numbers and a V8 engine (5.4 L, 304 hp). The car’s transmission is a 3-speed Powerglide automatic, which powers the rear wheels. The ‘Stingray’ was assembled in March 1967 in St. Louis and was finished in the original ‘Rally Red’, with a Red vinyl interior. It was fitted with a radio, power steering, seatbelts and a stylish hardtop.

Recently the car was fully restored to the original specifications, with no expenses spared. New paintwork, chrome, interior, rubber seals, tuning of the engine and the transmission, suspension… every component of the car has been serviced! The result is a ‘C2’ in mint condition, which has already come in first place at several competitions. A taxation report was also established, which resulted in a 2+ score.

The Stingray is ready for many more years of care-free driving, and will undergo servicing in our own workshop prior to the sale.

The car comes with its original hardtop, new side pipes, the original steering wheel, a recent taxation report (valued at €80,000), the owner’s manual and previously-won awards.
