Description

First registered in March 23rd 1965, this magnificent Silver Cloud III was to lead a very cosseted life covering very little mileage 40,000 to date. Most of these miles were to be covered taking part in numerous shows where it won multiple prizes along side its counter part and twin Bentley S3 chassis B120GJ. The two were were originally paired up by Rolls Royce and Bentley dealers Appleyard of Leeds, who would often display the cars together to promote their company and gaining the affectionate name of "the Claret Pair" before the Bentley was sold on. Our Rolls Royce Silver Cloud III was then also purchased by a new owner Mr Roy Swift in 1980, he would go on to take take the Silver cloud III to shows and use SJR505 Sparingly keeping a constant record of shows attended and maintenance performed.
During his purchase of SJR505 it was mentioned to him that there was an Identical Bentley S3 and that Appleyard had always displayed the two side by side to promote Rolls Royce and Bentley motor cars , both built in 1965, both Claret with Beige Hide and lambswool rugs and both most importantly original low mileage examples. it was this thought that never left his mind in fact he mentions in the history that he was haunted by the thought of re-uniting the pair.
Roll on 1984 and Mr Swifts dream would come true re-uniting the "Identical twins" B120GJ and SJR505, he would go on to own "the claret pair" until 1995. We then agreed a deal to purchase both cars and place them in the largest U.K. Rolls Royce collection " The Haydon Bailey collection" the Rolls Royce still having only covered 27,000 miles. SJR505 would then find its way to Belgium where it was also to find a very caring owner who would use the Silver Cloud Sparingly and continue the tradition of attending shows and winning awards. One of the finest original Silver Clouds in the world.
