History of the Jaguar E-Type Series 1½

Considered by many to be the quintessential British Sports Car, the Jaguar E-Type's unveiling in 1961 caused a sensation both with the press and in the public eye. Admirers came from all walks of life; even Enzo Ferrari referred to it as “the most beautiful car ever made.” Beneath its gorgeous looks was a revolutionary sports car with rack and pinion steering, fully independent suspension, and four wheel disc brakes with inward rear rotors. All of this was propelled by the already proven performance of the XK engine. The series 1½ E-type is a transitional model existing between proper Series I and Series II production for 1968 model year cars. These limited production E-types featured the stylish Series I bonnet with U.S. required open headlamps while the newly designed adjustable seats and rocker-style dash switches that are featured in all Series II E-types are also present. With Series-1 like appearance and Series II refinements the Series 1½ cars are highly sought after today by Jaguar collectors and enthusiasts. With only approximately 2,000 Series 1½ roadsters built in North American specification demand vastly outweighs supply.
