Description

1969 Lotus Elan S4 SE FHC

Subject of recent body-off restoration
Complete with old style green log book, both sets of keys and a large documented history file included
Surely one of the finest classic Lotus Elan currently for sale

The Lotus Elan was an instant success when launched in 1962. Using Colin Chapman’s minimum weight design, the car weighed just 640 KGs at launch. This was achieved with a steel backbone chassis and fibreglass bodywork. The lively Twin-Cam 1600 cc engine mated to twin Stromberg Carburettors (S4 rare original equipment) all round disc brakes and rack and pinion steering combine to offer the legendary Lotus handling that made the Elan an exceptionally rapid machine for its day.

The S4 example we have here comes with the later “SE” additions which included electric windows, updated rear lamp cluster, two speed wipers, enlarged flared wheel arches, negative earth electrics, dual circuit brakes and revised engine head casting for use with the Stromberg carburettors.

A Mr. Price purchased the car from the original owner in 1973 and ran the car until 1980 when he decided a partial renovation was required. Much later in 1993 the car returned to the road with a rebuilt engine and new wiring. In 2012 the car changed hands again and the new keeper decided to totally restore the car from ground up. This involved a body-off restoration with total dedication to detail producing the result you see today. Finished in 2015 and having covered 300 dry miles since, the car now presents as new.

Complete with old style green log book, both sets of keys and a large documented history file with invoices and photographs, this Elan is ready to go for the forthcoming summer of motoring.

Lotus Elan of this caliber rarely come up for sale and we anticipate a great deal of interest. The car is available for immediate inspection at The Classic Motor Hub.
