The Porsche 356 B Cabriolet

By the end of the 1950s, the Porsche 356 was one of the most popular German sportscars. It incorporated the ingredients that had made the first Volkswagen so successful: rear engine, air-cooled flat four cylinders, and a distinctive body shape. But the Beetle had long been left behind and the modifications initiated by Ferry Porsche had transformed the gentle automobile into a brilliant sportscar, combining appealing performances with a level of reliability that outshone its competitors. After the first generation of the 356 and the 356A, the 356B was introduced in 1959. More modern, some details of the bodywork had changed, notably with strengthened bumpers and raised headlamps. The 1600cc engine remained available in 60 or 75bhp versions, but from the start of March 1960, the Super 90 was available offering 90bhp. A very versatile car, the Porsche 356 has always been a driver’s favourite, also performing brilliantly on the circuit, particularly the Carrera version.

This Motorcar

The Porsche 356 B 1600S Super 90 Cabriolet we are offering here is chassis 157945. The engine number, 806776, is matching according to the car’s factory Kardex. The car is here presented in its original and highly desirable Bali Blau, code 6212B. The interior was changed from black to beige leather.
Supplied new via Belgian authorized dealer D’Ieteren Frères on February 1963, this example is one of only 932 Cabriolet produced that year and therefore makes it a desirable factory 90 bhp model, which is the last year of production for this model before the introduction of the C model.
Chassis 157945 was delivered new to D.F Vronken of Brussels and was maintained at the D’Ieteren dealership until 1964 before it was sold to second owner Mr Mignon, also from the Brussels area. More recently the car was subject to a ground up restoration in Italy, ordered by its second last owner. The current owner acquired 157945 five years ago and made only very little use of it, totaling a mere 1,000 km since then.
This very appealing example, in one of the most fitting colour for this model, is available immediately.
