Description

"Mercedes-Benz has been producing an SL (Sport Leicht) model or range of models since 1954 when the landmark 300 SL was unveiled. The similarly styled, but mechanically unrelated, 190 followed in 1955, completing the first generation of cars. Their successor was the W113 series SL which proved to be more comfortable than the former and faster than the latter. The 250 SL is the rarest of all the SL's as they were only made for one year, of these and most were fitted with automatic gearboxes. This example is presented in dark red with beige leather interior and has a black hood. The factory hardtop is included which is also in dark red, the engine is not the original but is a larger capacity from a 280 SE model. This is mated to an automatic gearbox and some would even say that this engine may be preferred as it would provide better performance potentially. It was imported five years ago from an American dealer and comes with its original US Title document. We are informed by the seller that the engine does start and run but it is being sold as a restoration project! These are highly desirable models and restored examples are achieving six figure sums in some instances."
