Description

A genuine LHD 1970 911 enhanced and restored by our own Works department.

In 2014, we were asked to give this 2.2 T 911 that recently been restored in Germany a mechanical check over prior to being delivered back to our client in Italy. Unfortunately, when it arrived, beneath its shiny coat of new paint, we established that the restoration had not been completed to a very high standard.

After a consultation with our Italian client in our workshop, it was decided to strip, restore and enhance the car into an outlaw type 911, retaining key period features, but with the focus on light nimble handling and a favourable power to weight ratio.

The bodyshell was restored to standard narrow shell specification with rolled arches together with lightweight front and rear bumpers and repainted in its original Conda green. Wheels are deep-sixes on the front with 7Rs on the rear with Avon CR6 ZZ historic fast road rubber.

Mechanically, the engine was rebuilt and the capacity increased to 2.4 litres with Weber carburettors replacing the original Zeniths and a period twin exit rear silencer. Dampers were new Bilstein Sport items and it is fitted with adjustable drop links.

Power is now circa 185bhp, with a kerb weight of 950kgs.

Because our client planned to use the car through the twists and turns of the alps, the brakes were uprated with modern 4 pot Brembo callipers. The 901 gearbox was retained, as this is lighter and has shorter ratios than the later 915 unit.

Turning to the interior, the lightweight theme continued with lightweight door cards, manual windows, ST style seats, a simple rear roll hoop and lightweight carpets. However, our client wanted this to look and feel different to a standard lightweight interior, so it was trimmed in distressed leather with complimentary Davidson Clan tartan inserts for the seats and a period original Jackie Ickx Momo steering wheel.

When a set of genuine Cibie driving lights were sourced and fitted with original yellow covers, this Conda Green outlaw 911 was affectionately christened `The Frog`.

On the road, The Frog has a perfect power to weight ratio, with just enough grip, informative light steering and strong brakes together with a fantastic soundtrack to ensure each journey is a special occasion.

The original style is internationally recognised, and the Frog has been recently selected by Tag Heuer to feature in a new advertising campaign featuring Patrick Dempsey for one of their forthcoming timepieces.

A beautifully simple 911, fully restored and enhanced, with the ethos that less really does mean so much more.
