Maserati Quattroporte III 4.9 Automatico

A straightforward icon full of classic Italian charisma with an undiminished bright shine: this truly gorgeous, Italian delivered 3rd generation Maserati Quattroporte 4.9 “Automatico” is grand in every way. From size to originality, condition, design and even the technique. A great opportunity for the classic car fan who’s looking for some extra centimeters of pure beauty!

History

The history behind the Quattroporte III is worth mentioning: the model was created under the reign of Alejandro de Tomaso. Indeed, former racing driver and also the man behind the similar named car brand. The Argentinian consciously distanced himself from the Citroën (SM) influences with which predecessor Quattroporte II had to deal. This (thankfully) put an end to all French interference with the Italian car manufacturer. De Tomaso showed his stylish side and used Giorgetto Giugiaro’s design qualities to turn the Quattroporte III into a stunningly beautiful limousine. Mission accomplished!
The new top model became Maserati’s most successful car ever. But with a production number of 2.155, it is still very unique by today's standards. The Quattroporte turned out to be a major attraction for various famous people as well. Even the Italian President Pertini, Luciano Pavarotti, Malcolm Forbes and the kings of Morocco and Jordan let themselves carry away by the great charms of the historical trident. Of course they did. This one comes from an old car collector whose collection became too big to handle. He came to the conclusion that cars like these deserve more attention. The man was right.

Exterior

The accent on the timeless bodywork of the Quattroporte III is extra clear in this special case. The straight and impressively large bodywork is topped with Argento Metallizzato. A beautiful description for silver metal lacquer. However, the effect is just as great. Thanks to the silver-gray color, the fine lines are showed brilliantly and the Maserati looks classy without becoming old-fashioned. The bodywork is in excellent and completely original shape. The car has no damages or rust at all. The fits around are perfect, the shine still bright. The 15 inch Campognolo rims have new Michelins XWX around them. All in all an enchanting appearance, this Quattroporte!

Interior & equipment

When generation 3 of the top class limousine from la bella Italia was introduced back in 1979, the car was only available in one interior composition. This one: dark brown Tabacco leather with burr walnut interior finishes. Everything, including the carpets, leather (also on the steering wheel and armrest!), velvet luggage compartment and the quite sensitive wood, is completely original and free from excessive wear and / or damages. Absolutely unique!
The level of equipment is also very special: electrically adjustable seats, air conditioning including outflow for the passengers on the back seat, electric windows for every door, power steering and central door locking are all standard. Also included is a complete tool set with 2 bags. A genuine time machine in every aspect!

Technique

In addition to being luxurious, the Maserati Quattroporte III is fast. Very fast. As a matter of fact it was the fastest limousine in the world at the time! The royal 4-door saloon came in 2 flavors: a 4.2 and 4.9 V8 with 255 and 280 hp. The most powerful and by far the most popular version is the one with a capacity of 4.9 liters. Like this one. The sound of the 8-cylinder is just sublime. And luckily for you it drives that way too…

Kind regards,
