After the Second World War, Citroën launched the one that is now one of the most mythical cars in the world: the 2CV. Before the war, under the aegis of the Michelin family, Pierre Jules Boulanger launched the TPV (Tout Petit Véhicule) project, the specifications of which he summarized with this famous sentence: "four wheels under an umbrella". The vehicle will have to accommodate four passengers, plus 50 kg of goods and reach a speed of 60 km/h using only 3 litres of fuel per 100 km. In addition, its suspension must be flexible enough to carry an egg basket without any breakage even across fields and did not include any aesthetic constraints! The simple shapes of the prototypes will be retouched by the company's designer, Flaminio Bertoni. The mechanical project was developed by Walter Becchia who kept the architecture flat but abandoned the idea of liquid cooling in favour of forced air cooling.
It was in October 1948 during the 35th Motor Show that three TPVs were unveiled, now renamed 2CV. The reception of the public remains mixed but when it was actually marketed in 1950, delivery times ranged from 5 to 6 years. The success of this car will never be denied, and 42 years later, Citroën will cease production by having manufactured and sold 5,114,961 2CV worldwide.
The copy we present is a 1959 2 CV AZ. A real barn exit, this car in its original condition has certainly never been restored. Only the floor has received an anti-corrosion treatment inside the passenger compartment. Presented at a very attractive price, this 2CV is a good base for restoration.

This car will be sold by auction by AGUTTES Auction House, in La Ferté-Vidame, at the Citroën Centenary, France, on July the 21th, 2019.
