Description

"When Porsche launched the 928 GTS in 1992, they knew it would be the last evolution of 928. Porsche did much to enhance performance and refinement, knowing that its luxury flagship would leave memories with Porsche enthusiasts. For the GTS, Porsche increased the engine capacity to 5397cc and added a catalytic convertor, with eight balance weights instead of six to enhance smoothness. This DOHC engine produced 350bhp and enabled a top speed of more than 170mph. The GTS engine was smoother and more flexible than its predecessor and was quieter and easier to drive. Changes to the chassis included a wider rear track and larger brakes. Externally, the GTS differed from S4 with its new style of alloy wheels, flared rear arches and a body-coloured rear spoiler. What Porsche wasn't advertising when the 928 was released was the price; it was among the most expensive cars on the road at the time. This severely hampered sales despite the model's high competency and long standard equipment list. Porsche discontinued the GTS model that year after shipping only 2,904 in total which in 1994 was a problem; in 2019 however, it has resulted in a rare and incredibly desirable Porsche.
First registered in August 1995, this stunning 928 GTS is presented in metallic blue with contrasting grey/blue leather trim and is in very good order indeed. The vendor, a Porsche collector, kept the car stored between 2008 and 2018 where after he decided to commission specialists Porsche Torque to fully recommission it mechanically for road use and eventual sale. This included a major service, new cambelt, drive belt and fluid changes. Featuring the dynamic kick down automatic transmission, this example is presented with a very good history file detailing the service history which was OPC Porsche until 1999 before Francis Tuthill took over maintenance and completed a full engine rebuild in 2002 with the mileage at 57,912. PortiaCraft followed on in 2003 and 2004 servicing the car twice more before the car was stored by our vendor as part of his collection. Accompanying the car is the original Porsche wallet, manuals and two keys together with an MoT test certificate valid until January. New tyres have also been fitted recently. These rare and collectable front engine V8 Porsches are fabulous motor cars and this one should command serious attention given its sensible estimate."
